Soap, Sales, and Sovereignty

Recently, I worked through Ezra for my devotional time, employing the SOAP method (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer). I’m taking my writings and converting them to articles to show you, too, can use the method for your quiet time. Let me know what method (or original process) you use when devoting yourself to the Lord daily.

Here are some notable links …

#Sales One of the many reasons I appreciate Missional Wear is its commitment to the lasting truths of the Christian faith. Another reason is their daily quotes on their Instagram account, from where my featured wallpaper comes. They also have a Reformation Day sale with discount code 1517 for 15% off your order. Speaking of which, don’t miss these other limited sales: Banner of Truth, 316 Publishing, and ChristianBook. Then, rest and watch the Luther commentary for free. It is fantastic.

#Parenting Consider how you might react to your pastor’s wayward child when he is called to manage his household well and grab 5 practical tips on better managing your family well. Dads, you will appreciate this article.

#Productivity Every productive person has a process, but few write the book on it. Reagan Rose, author and Christian leader on redeeming productivity, shares his quarterly goal-setting process

#CurrentEvents As bad as things are, they could be worse. Consider 5 ways the world would be worse without Christianity. And, to continue to reflect on the Middle East, Michael Grisanti answers the question: How should we think about the current situation in Israel?

#FunFact Crossway has distributed over a billion tracts worldwide since its inception by founder Clyde Dennis in the 1930s.. Commemorate this milestone with them.

Don’t be a Moab, Endure Trials

Last week, my featured article showed how trials expose the true worth of your faith. This week, we look again at James 1:2-4 to see how trials also improve your faith under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Weekly Wallpaper

As mentioned, this week’s featured wallpaper was pulled from an Instagram post by Missional Wear. It highlights a quote from Charles Spurgeon who emphasizes the comfort that comes to the believer when the sovereignty of  God is contemplated.

Before we end, I am repurposing some of my seminary writings for the website. Have you considered some of the theories of the atonement for the sake of truth-checking your own? Take a look at this article, it is not heady at all.

Until next time.

For the Kingdom,
Jacob Abshire
