Joshua

In Joshua, we learn to courageously trust and obey God as we take hold of all He has faithfully promised.

Joshua begins at a moment of uncertainty. Moses is dead, Israel stands outside the Promised Land, and powerful enemies occupy the territory ahead. God repeatedly commands Joshua to be strong and courageous because the mission cannot be completed through human strength alone. Joshua’s courage must rest in God’s presence, God’s promises, and God’s Word.

Courage then becomes the posture required throughout the conquest. Israel must cross the Jordan, face fortified cities, recover from failure, confront numerous armies, and continue fighting until the land is secured. Their victories come when they trust and obey God. Their failures reveal what happens when fear, presumption, or disobedience replaces faithful dependence on Him.

The book closes by calling Israel to courageously remain faithful after the battles have ended. They must reject false gods, cling to the Lord, and serve Him wholeheartedly within the land He has given them. Joshua teaches that courage is more than bold action in a crisis. It is steadfast faith that trusts God’s promises, obeys His commands, confronts opposition, and remains loyal to Him.

Courage takes hold of what God has promised.
