Remaining in Persia, some exiled Jews choose not to return to Jerusalem. King Xerxes of Persia selects Esther, a Jewish woman concealing her ethnicity at her cousin Mordecai’s advice, as his queen. Haman, a high-ranking official, plots the extermination of all Jews in the kingdom, unbeknownst to him and the king that Esther is Jewish. A series of providential events lead to Haman’s execution, Mordecai’s recognition, and the Jewish people’s salvation, with Esther playing a pivotal role.
