Isaiah expects the coming Messiah to be born as a child. His character displays His divine identity: He is a Wonderful Counselor (cf. Judg. 13:18; Isa. 28:29), the very Might of God (Deut. 10:17), an Everlasting Father (a royal one who is like a loving father to His people), and the Prince of Peace (Ps. 72:7; cf. Eph. 2:14). This coming child is the embodiment of Immanuel (adapted from the ESV Gospel Transformation Bible).
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.Isaiah 9:6
