“Your daughter is dead,” they said to Jairus (Mk. 5:35). Not long before, Jairus demonstrated tremendous faith in the power of Jesus by rushing to Him and falling at His feet, begging for help. “My little daughter is at the point of death,” he said to Jesus (Mk. 5:21-24). Seeing how his helpless situation would puncture his faith, Jesus encourages him, “Do not fear, just believe.” Sometimes, the faith we have to trust God during our troubles is punctured by the blows of helplessness. But, we should remain strong in our faith and only believe.
While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler’s house some who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” (Mark 5:35–36)
