God lovingly removes what hinders fruitfulness. Like a vinedresser, He cuts away what is dead, distracting, or diseased so that our lives may bear more fruit for His glory. Though pruning is often painful, it is an expression of His care and commitment to our growth. This prayer asks for a life free of empty leaves and worthless branches — a life marked by lasting fruit. Reflect on areas where God may be pruning you now and take courage that His hand is gentle and His purpose good.
For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
