Scriptures to Motivate a Persistent Patience

Building persistent patience, or a reputation of being “gentle” as it is stated in 1 Timothy 3:3, is not necessarily easy. It requires diligence, understanding, and spiritual power. Here are some scriptures to motivate you to keep building a persistent patience for the glory of God. I suggest reading them often and memorizing them as well.

• 1 Corinthians 6:7-8 — “To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers!”
• Matthew 11:28-29 — “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
• Galatians 5:22-23 — “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
• Galatians 6:1 — “Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness.”
• James 3:13, 17 — “Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. … But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
• Psalm 103:8-14 — “The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.”
• 1 Thessalonians 2:7-8 — “But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.”
• Philemon 14 — “I preferred to do nothing without your consent in order that your goodness might not be by compulsion but of your own accord.”
• 2 Timothy 2:24-25 — “And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth.”
• 2 Timothy 4:2 — “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.”
• Ephesians 4:1-3 — “I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
• Colossians 3:12-13 — “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.”
• 1 Peter 3:14-15 — “But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”
