404: This Page is Lost

Surprised? Well, you shouldn’t be. These type of things happen a lot. The term “404” is a web code-word for an error. When a page is lost, the computer says, “I can’t find that page.” This is a 404.

The truth is, we are all 404 – you, me, your friends and family. We are what the Bible calls lost people (Matthew 18:10-14; Luke 15:1-10). This is because we are like web pages that cannot be found. We are people of error (Romans 3:23) and are being wasted away (Psalm 31:10). To put it more intensely, we are “children of wrath, like the rest of mankind” (Ephesians 2:3).

Ultimately, God will dispose of us like we dispose of 404 pages (Romans 6:23). They are pages that don’t exist to us. Likewise, we are people who don’t exist to Him (Matthew 7:21-23). Therefore, our future isn’t bright at all. Rather, there is stored up for us eternal punishment for our error. Let’s face it, we are all full of error. We have cheated, lied, coveted, hated, lusted. The list goes on. These errors are called sin.

There is good news though. It is this: “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). You see, the penalty of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Yes, 404 people will die and die again because they are lost. This is true of us all. But, God died the death on our behalf, so that we didn’t have to be 404.

Jesus, who is God, said it this way, “If you want to have eternal life, consider me your greatest treasure and follow me” (Matthew 16:24; Mark 8:34). So, those who treasure Jesus most of all will be found. “For Jesus came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10). Do you want to be found? If so, let God know.

Your life doesn’t have to be a 404.
