Design Insight Behind the Attributes of God Series

by Jacob Abshire on September 15, 2016

Yesterday, I published the first of fifteen new wallpaper designs focused on the attributes of God. Capturing the divine characteristics is not easy. How do you picture the nature of God as triune, omnipresent, self-sustaining? While concepts like love, mercy, and goodness, can be illustrated, nothing embodies the incommunicable attributes of God.

Instead, I chose to turn to the cosmic wonders of our universe—images from outer space. They are not just glorious, they are  transcendent and mysterious. They picture something bigger and beyond our imaginations. They encompass things we cannot measure nor completely understand. Consider this picture of a firery gas existing in distant space. He suggests wrath, heat, and energy. It makes me think of God’s holiness.

Still, the concept of fire might distract you from God’s infinitude. God’s holiness is not fire. It is not gas. So, by turning this photo into an abstract, polygonal design, we suddenly have a more intangible, mysterious picture. Now, we might allude to the holiness of God.

After that, I can add some strong, three-dimensional words, some symbolic identities, and a scripture to lift our thoughts toward the holiness of God. The combination of these things really highlight what I was seeking to find in the series on The Attributes of God.

In the coming weeks, we will highlight God’s self-existence, self-sufficiency, immutability, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, goodness, mercy, and much more. I had a great time creating this artwork and I hope it is blessing to you. Maybe with a little bit of inight into how I created them will help you appreciate them as I do.
